Problem

The heads of the screws keep snapping off – what can I do to stop this from happening?

Solution

If the heads of your screws keep snapping off, don’t worry – it’s usually an easy fix.

First, try lowering your driving speed. Using too high a speed can cause the screw head to overheat and break.

Also, try pre-drilling and countersinking the hole before driving the screw in. This will give the screw a clean path and reduce resistance.

Check you’re using the right screw size for the material. If the screw is too thick or long, it can put too much stress on the head.

Zenith Hex Head Timber Screws are engineered for strength and durability, with precisely machined threads to reduce the risk of breakage. By choosing the right Zenith screw for your job, you’ll save time and get a stronger finish.

Problem

I’m hanging shelves and can’t get them level – help!

Solution

The Zenith Sure Hook provides a quick, level fix for reinforcing shelves, cupboards, or any flat DIY surface. Use a spirit level before attaching the brackets to keep everything perfectly straight to ensure a clean finish.

Using quality timber screws means getting the job done right the first time.

Problem

I have an internal door that won’t close properly. How can I fix it?

Solution

When internal doors don’t shut properly, they can let in noise and warm or cool air, plus they can drag and damage flooring. Often, the fix can be as simple as replacing old or sagging door hardware. The Zenith range of access and security products includes easy-to-install door hinges, handles, bolts, and door catches to keep closed doors firmly shut.

Problem:

The bolts I used outdoors have started rusting after just a few months – how do I stop this from happening again?

Solution

If your outdoor bolts are rusting, they’re probably not stainless steel. Galvanised or zinc-plated fasteners eventually corrode, especially in coastal areas. Zenith Stainless Steel Cup Head Bolts and Nuts are made from high-quality stainless steel and are corrosion-resistant in all weather conditions. They’re the best long-lasting choice for decks, pergolas, outdoor furniture and fencing.

Problem:

I’m building a timber deck – do I need to use washers with my bolts?

Solution

Using washers can help spread the load and protect the decking from damage. Zenith Stainless Steel Cup Head Bolts have a wide, smooth head that grips securely without digging in. For extra stability, pair with Zenith stainless steel washers to provide strength and a cleaner finish.

Problem:

I don’t know which fastener is best to securely fasten timber and metal together – there are so many options.

Solution

When you’re fastening timber to metal or timber to timber, using the wrong fastener can lead to weak joints. Zenith Stainless Steel Cup Head Bolts and Nuts are designed to fasten timber and metal together easily. Manufactured from stainless steel with a rounded head that sits flush, they’re perfect for furniture, fencing, or outdoor structures. Simply pre-drill a hole, slot the bolt through, and tighten with the included nut for a strong hold.

Problem:

I’ve hung my new TV sound bar but vibration is impacting the sound – how can I fix this?

Solution

When mounting TVs or speakers, it’s essential to use solutions designed for high-vibration applications. Zenith Zinc-Plated Nylon Lock Nuts and Whitworth-threaded bolts grip the thread to prevent loosening.
